On Friday must have started well for Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official, Ola Oyesina as he went about his duties at Iganmu axis of Lagos state. Unfortunately, he was not to return home that day as he was hacked death by an irate mob.
According to sources at LASTMA, Oyesina (pictured above in coma receiving medical treatment on his way to the hospital) was lynched by an angry mob comprising drivers, touts and random road users around 5 pm while he was attending to the gridlock around Iganmu-Sifax area.
While the mob action was ongoing, a very large stone was pelted at Oyesina, causing him to slump instantly. He was then taken to Area B Police Command in Apapa, before he was rushed to Randle Hospital Surulere and later Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where he later gave up the ghost.
According to a LASTMA source, “A large stone was thrown at him and he immediately fell. He was brought to Area “B” Police Command, Apapa.
“Due to the trauma, victim was immediately referred to Randle Hospital, Surulere before he was later rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idiaraba for further treatment following severe injuries sustained. He later gave up the ghost late Saturday evening at the Emergency Section of LUTH.”
Reacting to the sad incident, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bayo Sulaimon has ordered for the apprehension of the two suspects who reportedly spearheaded the attack on Oyesina.
