Police in Lamwo District are hunting for one Robert Komakech, over allegations of burning the private parts of his wife only identified as Santa, on Thursday night.
The suspect and victim are all residents of Kakira South village in Padibe town council in Lamwo District.
It’s reported that the suspect and his wife had a domestic brawl and after beating Santa up Komakech pushed a glowing piece of firewood into the victim’s private parts.
The Padibe town council Chairperson Solomon Ochola, said the suspect fled the scene after committing the crime and was subsequently arrested but he managed to escape from custody and returned to the village while pursuing his wife saying he wanted to kill her.
Ms Sarah Okoo, a neighbour said the couple had been having a long standing feud, with the suspect always accusing his wife of reporting him to clan elders who always punish him.
Ms Okoo said the victim is nursing injuries and burns sustained during the incident at Padibe Health Centre IV.
“Upon recovery the victim will temporarily be sheltered at the facility established to provide temporary refuge for victims of domestic and gender based violence,” she said.
Lamwo Acting District Police Commander ASP Mashuid Ssemwogere confirmed the incident saying a case of assault and torture have been reported at Padibe Police post by a section of women activists and members of Lamwo district woman council.
“Investigations into the matter are underway and a manhunt for the suspect is ongoing,” he said.
