Ponyak Danladi Nanfa, a 27-year old final year Diploma student of the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State has reportedly struck dead by thunder in Plateau.
The incident happened during evening period of Monday, September 2, 2019, when a rainstorm was accompanied by thunder and lightning which struck the victim to death while returning from school.
According to reports, the incident happened on his way to get the foodstuffs his parents sent to him.
Ponyak who hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of the State was a third year National Certificate in Education (NCE) student studying Music/Social Science.
According to a Students’ Union Government (SUG) official, Mr. Renan Ibrahim, he said:
“He had just written his first paper and was passionate about making good grades when he met his end.”
Also, from a eyewitness, the rainstorm reportedly started around 2pm and continued till evening.
“The thunderstorms rumbled many times before the heavy rainfall, which affected many students.”
Also, the school authorities has said that it was the first time such tragedy happened in the school.
Also, two other persons were reportedly killed when bandit attacked Vatt community of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The bandits were said to have stolen dozens of cattle and fired gunshots as they fled the area. It was not clear how the two died, but sources said they were hit by bullets from the bandits’ guns.
