Democracy in Nigeria has not addressed the needs of the common man, it has only empowered and enriched the few. Democracy, however, only gives the Nigerian people power to make noise without visible and practical benefits from the government.
When you read “Mein Kampf” by Adolf Hitler, you could perhaps share his arguments and opinion about democratic government. Democracy is full of irresponsible men where people cannot be held accountable for their actions and inactions. The discussion and decision under democracy always favour the majority no matter how stupid and unwise it appears.
Democratic institution can only have positive effects on learned and practically educated societies, not underdeveloped and nations that have not reached it’s peak in education.
In a country as Nigeria where education is still at crude level, it will be very hard if not impossible for democracy to have positive effects on the people. Democracy cannot progressively drives in a hungry and illiterate society, it will always be hijacked by the few elites.
So, maybe we should practice another system of government…
