The President General of Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, Chief Johnson Opone, has called for unity of Ndokwa Ethnic Nationality as he inaugurated the newly elected executive of the Ndokwa Neku Union in Abuja, charging them to be more proactive and strive harder to ensure peace and development of Ndokwa people living in Abuja.
The President General of the apex socio-cultural group in Ndokwa Ethnic Nationality who administered the oath on them at 805 restaurant, Amino Kano crescent, Wuse 2 in Abuja, weekend reiterated his administration’s commitment to positioning Ndokwa in the line of proper development.
While enumerating the achievements of his executive since its inception, he affirmed that interventionists agencies like the Niger Delta development Commission (NDDC) and the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission, DESOPADEC), have been approached to help address some of the critical developmental challenges of Ndokwa land.
Opone pointed out that for the first time, the union has interfaced with the presidency and National Assembly over issues of interest to the ethnic nationality such as the establishment of federal institutions, including universities, polytechnics in the region and reminding the federal government of the fact that Ndokwa has the largest gas deposit in the West African Sub-Region and thus deserves a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), project.
“We had attracted and still attracting projects to our communities. The road that is now been done in Utchi is the effort of NNU, and my executive. We interacted and met with the Amnesty office, and we were giving attention.” he said
Adding that the national executive led by him had made progress in repositioning the union in favour of Ndokwa people, as they had continuously interacted with other ethnic nationalities.
“We have submitted the architectural plan for an Ndokwa House to the Delta State Government, and by the time we will be leaving office we shall publish a brochure of the catalog of our achievements while in office”
Responding on behalf of other members, the elected Chairman, Comrade Anigala Jonathan assured that the exco would work closely with national executives to ensure smooth running of the activities of union in the FCT as they
strive towards genuine development of the ethnic nationality.
Other members of the inaugurated executives include Engr Bonny Onwuka as the Vice-Chairman and Hon. Stanley Ossai as public relations officer.
Speaking with journalists after the inauguration, the President General called on the people of Ndokwa to pursue genuine development of the area, by always imbibing the spirit of negotiation with the relevant authorities on projects that will uplift the people of the area.
