Tricycle rider killed in Lagos over fight for the right of way

Aniete Bassey, a tricycle rider in Lagos has reportedly been killed by a motorist while fighting for the right of way in Surulere area of Lagos State, said the Lagos State Police Command.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 11, 2019 along Akerele Street Off Falolu, Surulere, Lagos State, said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The Spokesman of the Police Command has said that the command received a distress call from Randle Hospital, Surulere informing them about a tricyclist brought to their hospital with his head broken and in a pool of blood has died on arrival.

It was reported that the tricycle rider was hit by a wheel spanner twice on his head by a driver of a Jeep while fighting for the right of way. Based on Investigations,the Jeep driver has been identified as one Christian Innocent, 39 years old.

DSP Elkana said:

“He was arrested by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer Surulere, CSP Jimoh Jabaje, on August 12.

He confessed to have engaged the deceased person in a fight over right of way.

He confessed that there was a vulgar abuse between him and the tricycle rider over who among them had the right of way as they both accused each other of rough driving.

There was no crash between the Jeep and the tricycle.”
