Barrister Azuka Eugene Uzum, the Director General, Bureau of Orientation Delta State has appealed to Deltans living in flood prone areas to vacate the environment to prevent the loss of lives in lieu of the forecast issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

Making this plea on Sunday, August 11, 2019, Barrister Uzum said according to the prediction of NIMET, there would be heavy downpour bringing about so much water on the surface during this raining period.

In his words:

“Once it rains, the ground cannot absorb the water making it to runoff and resulting in so much water on the surface particularly in the areas that are adjoining the riverine locations.”

“It is pertinent we alert and sensitise those in flood-prone areas that there will be flooding and they should relocate as quick as possible.”

He also said the Bureau of Orientation will make all efforts to sensitize Deltans in the different local governments on the need to move upland and environmental sanitation by clearing the drainage.
