The Bayelsa State government holds Local Government elections in its Eight Local government areas today, August 10, 2019.
The election is being conducted by the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission. The commission has urged all eligible voters with their Permanent Voters Card in the state to come out en-masse for the LG elections. The State INEC chairman, Mr. Remember Ogbe, announced that the election will commence at exactly 8:00am with accreditation and followed by the voting proper simultaneously.
The All Progressive Congress(APC) has complained about its lack of trust in the State’s electoral body and has threatened to boycott the Local Government elections.
According to the Bayelsa State INEC Chairman, 44 political parties would be partaking in the elections. He said there would be movement restrictions from 8:00am to 2:00pm to allow the electoral commission to conduct a free and fair elections.
The Commander of Police, Mr. Uche Anozia has also cautioned the State’s populace to maintain peace and order during and after the elections. And the State Police Command has thereby deployed security operatives to the different Local Governments for proper monitoring of the elections’ procedure.
CP Uche Anozia also encouraged electorates to troupe out to exercise their franchise as he assured them of their security.
